Fort Lauderdale Tummy Tuck, Abdominoplasty

Most women strive to have a flat, smooth stomach; however, for some it is an impossible goal. Some women cannot get rid of their saggy, loose abdomen, even with regular exercise and healthy eating habits. Causes of a protruding, saggy abdomen include:

  • Pregnancy
  • Significant Weight Loss
  • Surgery
  • Aging

A tummy tuck, or an abdominoplasty, is designed for women who cannot seem to get of the excess skin and fat in their lower abdomen. A tummy tuck flattens the tummy by surgically removing excess skin and fat and tightening of the abdominal muscles.

What to Expect

The procedure is performed in an office or hospital operating room under general anesthesia and typically takes 2 to 3 hours. The patient is free to return home the same day of surgery. Patients usually experience bruising, swelling, soreness and possible numbness for several months following the procedure.

It is normal for a tummy tuck patient to have difficulty standing erect for a few days after the surgery. Patients are advised not to rush the process.

Most tummy tuck patients are able to return to work within 2 to 3 weeks and back to their normal routines within 4 to 6 weeks. Once the swelling goes down, the abdomen will be flat and firm; however, it may take up to 2 years for the scars to flatten and fade.

Possible Complications for Tummy Tuck Surgery

Your surgeon will explain the remote possibility of excessive bleeding, infection or difficulties with the sutures so you know what to expect.

Other risks include swelling in the legs and discoloration of the skin in the abdominal area. If you experience persistent swelling and fluid accumulation you should see your doctor.
