Perlane
What is Perlane?
Perlane is an injectible dermal facial filler that has been designed to soften and restore volume in wrinkles and facial lines. Perlane is also commonly used as a filler in lip augmentation, facial depression and scarring.
Perlane is a gel that is injected directly into the wrinkles and/or facial depressions. The gel is non-allergenic as it is composed of a naturally occurring substance, hyaluronic acid, that will be absorbed over time by the body.
Perlane can be used to for the following conditions:
- Facial wrinkles
- Fine lines around the mouth, nose and forehead
- Chin and lip augmentation
- Lip enhancement
- Restore hollowing beneath or around the eyes
- Soften acne or other facial scarring
- Deep facial depressions
What to Expect
Perlane injections are not surgical procedures and are typically done in the plastic surgeon’s office. Typical numbing cream or local anesthetic as a dental block is used to minimize discomfort. The procedure can take up to 45 minutes and the patients are free to return home directly after the procedure is complete. The patient will be able to see the results of Perlane immediately, however he/she may experience swelling, bruising, redness and soreness following the procedure.
Although the results are not permanent, they usually last 6 to 8 months. Repeat treatments are necessary to maintain desired results. To avoid bleeding and severe bruising, it is important to avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or vitamin E supplements prior to treatment. If you have a history of facial cold sores, make sure to tell your surgeon so medication can be prescribed to avoid reoccurrences.
