Fort Lauderdale Breast Lift

A woman’s breasts change throughout her adult life.  Pregnancies, weight gain or loss, the aging process, and the inevitable force of gravity cause youthful breasts to lose their shape, lift and firmness. Breast lift surgery is designed to counter some of these effects by literally lifting the breasts to give them a more youthful, perky appearance.

Breast Lift Basics

A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, counteracts the loss of elasticity in the breast by removing excess skin and tightening the tissue to reshape and lift the breast. During the procedure, the size of the areola can also be reduced if stretching has occurred.

A breast lift is designed to reshape and rejuvenate the breast; however, it does not change the size. If you are looking to enhance both the size and shape of your breast, talk to Ft. Lauderdale plastic surgeon Dr. Stokes about inserting breast implants in conjunction with a breast lift to create fuller, perkier breasts.

What to Expect

Breast lift surgery is typically performed in an office or hospital operating room using general anesthesia. The procedure will take up to 3 hours and you will be free to return home the same day. After the procedure you may experience minor discomfort, bruising and swelling. Scars can take up to a year to fully mature.

You should be able to return to work within a week, depending on the nature of your job, and you should be able to return to your normal activities, including forms of mild exercise within a few weeks. Sexual activity should be avoided for one to two weeks, and extreme care should be taken several weeks after the procedure as they may be tender and sore.
